About Me

João P. M. Dâmaso Moniz was born on November 8th, 1986 at the parish of Ribeira Seca, Ribeira Grande municipality, having started his studies at the local primary school.

He continued his studies at the then Gaspar Frutuoso school and later at the Ribeira Grande Secondary School. He holds a degree in Civil Engineering from the Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa, a master’s degree in Engineering and Construction Management, with a dissertation on the theme “Physical and mechanical characterization of concrete with the incorporation of recycled coarse aggregates” and a master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), with the dissertation on the theme “Model of evaluation of housing fractions in the city of Ponta Delgada – hedonic approach”, both by the Azores University. At September 2020 he starts his PhD in Civil Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico. He is a Senior Occupational Safety Technician (CCP), Trainer (CCP), Property Appraiser Expert by C.M.V.M., Expert on the Official List of Justice and Qualified Expert at the energy certification system (PQ-I). He is also an effective member at the Orders of Technical Engineers (OET), senior member at the Orders of Engineers (OE) and a member of the National Association of Real Estate Appraisers (ANAI).

In professional terms, he worked in several regional companies within the scope of his basic and complementary training area, having also worked as a trainer in professional schools on the island of São Miguel. He is the founder of CEmpA Centro Empresarial dos Açores, S.U., Lda.

In the associative sphere, in the academic year 2003/2004, he was treasurer of the Students’ Association of the Secondary School of Ribeira Grande, being currently an associate of Pontilha and the Jacinto Ferreira Cabido Welfare Center. He was one of the partners responsible for the resurgence of the Clube ADSP Atlético Desportivo de São Pedro, holding the position of president of the Fiscal Council, between 2016/2018. On April 26, 2016, he took office as vice president of the Ponta Delgada Chamber of Commerce and Industry (São Miguel and Santa Maria Business Association), a position he held until October 12, 2021. On behalf of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Azores was part of the advisory board of the Regulatory Authority for Energy Services (ERSE), for the 2019/2022 term, as well as the strategic board of the Sociedade para o Desenvolvimento Empresarial dos Açores (SDEA) and the advisory committee to monitor the process of amending the Regional Water Plan for the Autonomous Region of the Azores.
